How to make amends: Reconciliation
Reconciliation is the restoration of relations between two parties who have been at odds.
Reconciliation between the Canadian body and the Indigenous people is important because it helps make amends for the systemic injustice they have faced throughout history. This can bring younger generations together and allow them to accept previous differences and forge a better path for the future.
Ultimately, reconciling will build a more inclusive and diverse community. One that acknowledges its past, but also does not carry it into the present and future.
How to get Involved
Volunteer:
There are many ways to get involved with Indigenous communities through volunteering.
Educate yourself on present and past indigenous issues:
Educate yourself on Indigenous issuers in Canada and spark conversations to educate others on the same issues.
Learn about land acknowledgments and what treaties are made on your land:
Land acknowledgement is important because it allows you to educate yourself on the treaties made for the land on which you reside and your duty to uphold those treaties.
